We hope you enjoyed 101 Things to Do in James Bay in the summer Beacon. This time we put together a list of 10 things to do that are unique to October in James Bay. These are presented in no particular order.
1) Enjoy the Fall Leaves
There is no better time than fall to enjoy our varied and beautiful trees. From Laurel Point to Beacon Hill Park, along almost every street in James Bay, marvel at the beauty of nature.
2) Watch the Marathon
The Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon goes right through James Bay on Oct 7. Why not cheer on the runners? For more information go to: https://www.runvictoriamarathon.com/
3) Walk with an Arborist
You can join the City of Victoria arborist in Beacon Hill Park to explore some of the more interesting park trees. Meet on Wednesday, Oct 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot near the children's play area. This free event is about 90 minutes in length.
4) Saints and Singers Fall Concert
At James Bay New Horizons (234 Menzies Street) on Wednesday, Oct 17 Broadway hits will be featured in this popular annual event. The program runs from 2-4 p.m. and tickets are $5. Get further details from New Horizons.
5) Photograph James Bay
As you walk around James Bay this fall have your camera ready to record our beautiful community. Better yet, why not submit a few of your photographs for consideration to be included in the Beacon?
Oct 20 is municipal election day, so don't forget to vote! Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Other articles in this issue give you background and voting details.
7) Beacon Hill Children's Farm
Catch one last day of running of the goats at the Beacon Hill Park Children's Farm before the farm closes for the winter.
8) Annual Fall Tea and Bazaar
This free event on Saturday, Oct 27 at James Bay New Horizons gives you the opportunity to purchase handmade crafts and items. Luncheon plates can be purchased for $5. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
9) Take a Ghostly Walk
There is no better time than October to take a ghostly historical walk! For 40 years Discover the Past walks have delighted residents and visitors. The walks in this area includes the James Bay Inn and the Bent Mast as well as a walk featuring St. Ann's Academy and Beacon Hill Park. 10) Visit James Bay Community School Halloween Den
For each of the last five years teacher Mr. Dave Vargas and his students have transformed their classroom into an amazing collection of Halloween sights and frights. The event is open to the community from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Monday Oct 29 and Tuesday Oct 30 this year. It is the classroom (#1) nearest to the school playground door at corner of Simcoe and Oswego. Admission is free, however donations are accepted, with proceeds going towards classroom resources and field trips.
