Poem: A Tall Order

In Beacon Hill Park

            I watch a bald eagle

            light atop

the world’s largest totem pole.

            The avian preens

            then surveys hunting ground

from its perch

where it rests.

After I read its totem Kwiew’s duty –

            to rule over the skies

            and relay messages

            from the creator,

I surmise its meditative roost

involves brooding

            over the Spirit’s edict.
