New Playground Surface
James Bay Community Project
By Moira Dann
The James Bay Community Project outdoor children’s playground is a marvel: it has a play kitchen, a real garden where little gardeners grow their own snack veggies, a place to climb and a slide! Laughter and squeals of childish delight are often part of its soundscape.
Unfortunately, it also had an outdoor tile ground surface that was showing its age. It got to where the usual Band-Aids to make it safe for children were soon going to stop working and getting a new surface was going to be expensive.
Enter our friends in the James Bay neighbourhood.
The James Bay Market made a generous donation, and along with other fundraising initiatives, there was enough money: the new playground surface was scheduled for installation in August 2019.
“It’s for the children in the neighbourhood, so it’s important,” said Carole Elliott, Chair of the James Bay Market Society. “We’re happy to help.”
The JBCP Fundraising Committee made the playground resurfacing the recipient of money raised during our second annual partnering with BEMA Productions in presenting We Are The Levinsons! to a sold-out audience at Congregation Emmanu-El in May.
It’s another great reason to live and work in James Bay: Get the word out about specific community-building projects and people will always step up!
